How we research our guides

For planning and regulatory subjects, we prefer authoritative sources such as GOV.UK and the Planning Portal rather than relying solely on claims made by companies selling garden buildings.
For product and supplier comparisons, we look beyond the headline price. Depending on the subject, that can include foundations, installation, insulation, glazing, flooring, electrics, heating and other elements needed to create a genuinely usable finished building.
We don’t claim to have personally tested or visited a product unless we have actually done so.
